OUR WORK

Underneath everything we are, underneath everything we do, we are all people. Connected, interdependent, united. And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.

You probably know the United Way best for our annual campaign. But the most important part of what we do is after the campaign. We have a proud history of offering people the opportunity to give back. However, with the struggling Michigan economy, the problems facing our community today demand a more strategic approach to charity, and with donors demanding more accountability for the their contributions, the Branch County United Way’s role is more vital than ever.

Our Strategy:

  • Identify the most pressing issues facing Branch County
  • Select partner agencies who are working to meet those needs currently
  • Add accountability in spending and ensure that money donated is spent in Branch County
  • Track progress and report results back to donors.

Why United Way?
The answer quite simply is LEVERAGE. You could give $100 to one of our partner agencies, and they would be grateful. However when you give $100 through the United Way, it is added to the thousands of other gifts received and together they provide enough funding to provide a years worth of programs in our community. And they allow agencies to collaborate, putting systems in place helping people now, and in the future.

Your gift to the Branch County United Way is more than a charitable donation; it is all of us working together to help not only families in need, but to improve the quality of life for our entire community.

What United Ways Do

Dwight Woodman

Ny name is Dwight. After 36 years working in Branch County, I need a chance to give back. On my
terms. I am a driver for CAA's Meals on Wheels program, funded by the Branch County United Way. I
deliver hundreds of meals a year, but the real reward can't be found in the food I deliver. It is the person to
person, one on one contact that gives me the greatest satisfaction. It is the reassurance a family gets
knowing that once a day, I am checking in with their loved ones, and making sure they are okay.
These are more then just meals- these are my friends. For some, I may be the only face they see
that day, so I want to make it matter- every deliver, every day.

I'm Dwight Woodman. Giving back where it means the most- that's how I LIVE UNITED.

Don Paarlberg

My name is Don. I was a Doctor in Branch County for over 30 years. I treated thousands of patients,
and I understand how costly healthcare has become. Personal health is the key to healthy families,
and to our future. That is why we founded the Presbyterian Free Health Clinic. in 2002- To provide
health care for the uninsured and underinsured in Branch County. Since 2002, we have served over
3000 patients, and your local doctors, nurses and clinicians have donated the equivalent of over
three quarters of a million dollars in services to ensure that every person in Branch County has
access to health care. United Way funding helps ensure that the clinic stays open, and that why I
support the Branch County United Way.

I am Doctor Donald Paarlberg. Using my talents to change lives in my community- that's how I LIVE UNITED.
